Is a Mastermind Right for You?

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

You’ve probably seen the term “mastermind” pop up, and maybe you’ve wondered whether a mastermind is right for you, what one is and if joining one could actually help move your business forward.

The short answer? It can.

But only if you’re the right fit, you’re at the right time and the group is the right fit.

Let’s go through the longer answer…

What Is a Mastermind?

It is NOT…

  • a course
  • a webinar
  • just another group Zoom call.

It’s an opportunity to spend quality time with like-minded people in honest, open conversations designed for real growth.  In a Mastermind, the members of the group bring challenges and questions and share their experience and expertise to bring new clarity, opportunities and options for experimentation and forward momentum.

A Mastermind is for You If...

  • You’re open to new ideas
    • You recognise that there may be ideas you haven’t considered.
    • You recognise that you may have to do something different to get different results
    • You recognise that you may need fresh eyes on the situation
  • You crave peer feedback
    • You are looking for clarity
    • You are looking for confirmation
    • You are looking for constructive criticism and improvements
  • You want real traction, not just ideas
    • You know that action is the secret sauce
    • You know that the only way to test an idea is by trying it out
    • You know that practice is what moves the dial

    Masterminds Aren’t for You If...

To make a mastermind work, the fit needs to go both ways. Here’s when a different kind of support might serve you better:

    • You prefer to work solo and dislike group settings
    • You’re looking for a done-for-you blueprint rather than co-creation
    • You think that you have already exhausted all the options
    • You think your business and your situation is unique

Not all Masterminds are the same

You may have heard the quote

“If you’re the cleverest in the room, you’re in the wrong room”.

For the right Mastermind, you need to be amongst your peers.

If the members are all much further along than you, some of their suggestions may be too complex and you may not be ready to take any suggested action.

If they are all much earlier in their journey then there may not be the experience in the room to support you.

A good mix of those slightly ahead, and slightly earlier gives you a good mix of expertise, experience and understanding of the common challenges you are facing at the appropriate level that you can take action.

The group size is also important.  There is a sweet spot around 8-15 members, where you have enough in the room that you get a good mix of ideas, but not too many that you feel overwhelmed.   This sweet spot is also enough that everyone can still feel heard and can start to build relationships of trust.

     The Bottom Line

A Mastermind isn’t just another business decision.  By joining a Mastermind you are making a commitment to real-time support, momentum, and community.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, tired of banging your head against the same wall, or just craving some new ideas to try in your business journey, coming along to a Mastermind is for you!
